Infinite Love in Tattoo Form

I remember when Connor got his first tattoo. He was off to college and I was looking at his bank account charges. I noticed there were a lot of off-campus food purchases, which irritated me because I was paying for the food plan. So, I asked him about it one day and followed up with “oh, by the way, did you get a tattoo?” I noticed there was a $100 charge at a local tattoo parlor. He said yes and wanted to come show it to me.
He came by the house a proceeded to show me the inside of his left wrist. It was an infinity symbol clearly done on a beer budget (hence the $100). I asked him why he choose that symbol. He said it was to remind him that nothing was forever. I walked over to him and brushed his beautiful blonde hair aside and said, “bless your heart”, that’s the exact opposite of what it means. He laughed and said he knew that, but to him – for whatever reason - that’s what it meant.

Now looking back, how fortuitous. He was right. Nothing here on earth lasts forever.
Two months after he passed, my best friend and I went to a (reputable) tattoo parlor and both got infinity symbols tattooed on our wrists. Never in my life did I think I’d get a tattoo because there wasn’t anything important enough to me – until now. It hurt. But I’m happy with it because it is a constant reminder of the infinite love I have for him.
Since I was at it, I also got a small cross on the inside of my left ankle. It’s a constant reminder of my faith. I got it near my foot as a reminder that Jesus was happy to wash people’s feet so I should always strive to be humble. The C&C tattoo will be a whole other story for another time.
Have you ever gotten a tattoo to memorialize your loved one? If so, what did you get? ∞
